"The Adventure Begins... With America’s Youth"

1989 ConTel : National Scout Jamboree Astronauts

The 1989 National Scout Jamboree Astronauts card series was produced by the ConTel Corporation for the Boy Scouts of America. Complete 12-card sets were distributed to attendees of the National Scout Jamboree held August 2–8, 1989, at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. The theme of the gathering focused on exploration, symbolized by the Space Shuttle.

The series features portraits of twelve NASA astronauts. Four of the astronauts achieved the rank of Eagle Scout: Neil Armstrong, Guion Bluford, Gerald Carr, and James Lovell.

The Astronauts collection includes Sally Ride, the third woman to travel into space. The 1989 National Scout Jamboree was the first year that female Explorer Scouts attended as participants.

The National Scout Jamboree distributed astronaut trading cards in 1989, 2013, and 2017.
