1964 Topps : The Story of President Kennedy Picture Cards
The Story of President Kennedy Picture Cards were released in 1964 by
Topps Chewing Gum, Inc. The 77-card black-and-white series showcases the life
of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. Each box
contains 24 wax packs. Each pack retailed for five cents and included a stick
of Bazooka bubble gum. The series was distributed in Canada by O-Pee-Chee,
Co., Ltd.
Mercury-Atlas 9 astronaut Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper Jr. is featured on card #7. The photograph was taken in the White House Rose Garden on May 21, 1963. President Kennedy is pictured presenting Major Cooper with the NASA Distinguished Service Medal. Fellow Mercury astronauts Virgil "Gus" Grissom and Alan Shepard can be seen behind Cooper and Kennedy.

The Story of President Kennedy wrapper artwork was issued on a limited trading card in the
Topps 80th Anniversary Wrapper Art series, released in 2018. The print run was limited to
391 cards.
