1979–1980 National Geographic World : Spacecraft Series
The Spacecraft Series was distributed from 1979–1980 by
National Geographic World magazine. The perforated cards were included
with each monthly issue, printed with various other subjects. The 18-card
Spacecraft Series showcases the history of NASA probes and vehicles
from Mercury-Atlas 6 spacecraft Friendship 7 to the test Space Shuttle
Enterprise (OV-101).
Apollo 17 Commander Eugene A. Cernan is pictured driving the Lunar Roving
Vehicle (LRV-3) on December 12, 1972. The LRV travelled 22.2 miles (35.7
kilometers) before being abandoned in the Taurus–Littrow lunar valley.
The Soyuz 7K-TM No.75 spacecraft is pictured prior to docking with Apollo
CSM-111 on July 19, 1975. The nine-day Apollo–Soyuz Test Project (ASTP)
was the first international crewed spaceflight. The joint mission tested
the compatibility of Soviet and American docking systems.
