1964 Mueller's Space Age : Picture History of Flight

Mueller's Space Age Licorice Cigarettes

Picture History of Flight cards were released in 1964 by The John Mueller Licorice Co. in Cincinnati. One card panel was attached to each pack of Mueller's Space Age Licorice Cigarettes. Each card panel measures approximately 1.5 x 2.875 inches.

Boxes and cases feature an illustration of the North American X-15 experimental aircraft. Each box contains 40 packs. The American Card Catalog reference is R750-4. The Space Age candy brand was introduced by Mueller's in 1959. The brand was being sold as late as 1968. Box designs have included an image of the Chrysler SM-78/PGM-19A Jupiter missile.

The Picture History of Flight series showcases the history of aircraft from the Montgolfier hot air balloon to the launch of Telstar 1. The communications satellite relayed the first live television broadcast between the United States and Europe. Telstar 1 was damaged by radiation from the Starfish Prime high-altitude nuclear test. The transmitter ultimately failed on February 21, 1963.
