1992 Club Pro Set : Smithsonian Institution Air & Space

Club Pro Set

The Club Pro Set Smithsonian Institution Air & Space card series was produced from 1992–1993 by Pro Set, Inc. and the Office of Product Development and Licensing. The collection was curated by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Club Pro Set and the Smithsonian Institution issued 27 different sets of "Fun Learning Cards" that cover a wide-range of science topics. Each set was distributed in a nine-card cellophane pack. Every card is available in three different reading level variations: Bronze (K–2nd), Silver (3rd–5th), Gold (6th–8th).

Air & Space cards #1–27 were printed in 1992 with yellow-colored backs. Cards #1–9 and #19–27 were reprinted in 1993 with orange-colored backs. Air & Space cards #10–27 showcase official NASA photographs of space missions and celestial bodies.

1992 Club Pro Set : Smithsonian Air & Space #18 - Moon Walk

Apollo 12 Commander Charles "Pete" Conrad appears uncredited on card #18. Conrad is pictured next to the American flag in Oceanus Procellarum, the "Ocean of Storms," on November 19, 1969. The card text description reads, "On July 20, 1969, American Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on our moon."

1992 Club Pro Set : Smithsonian Air & Space #14 - Astronaut

Bruce McCandless appears uncredited in a photograph from Space Shuttle Challenger STS 41-B. Mission Specialists Bruce McCandless and Robert Stewart performed the first untethered EVA on February 7, 1984. The astronauts tested the nitrogen propulsion thrusters of the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU). McCandless is pictured travelling at nearly 18,000 miles per hour, but the relative thrusts of the MMU were roughly two or three miles per hour.
