1960 L.M. Becker : Space Age Prize Package

L.M. Becker Space Age Prize Package : No. 17 Splashdown

Space Age Prize Package cards were released circa 1960 by the L.M. Becker Company of Brillion, Wisconsin. The American Card Catalog reference is R780-8. Each card measures approximately 2.3 x 3.5 inches (59 x 99 mm). The series is copyrighted L.M.B. Co.

Each Prize Package contains four surprises that include a trading card, bubble gum, and small plastic toys. The paper envelopes were sold in counter display boxes and dispensed from coin-operated vending machines. Various Space Age cards can be cut and folded into displays and models.

The 25-card series features illustrations of the North American X-15 hypersonic research vehicle and the Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar spaceplane concept. The collection includes an early rotating space station design, first proposed by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in 1903. "Splashdown" depicts the water landing of a Project Mercury spacecraft.
