1966 Anglo Confectionery : Space
"Real pictures of space exploration in colour"
The Space card series was released in 1966 by Anglo Confectionery Ltd.
of Halifax, England. Each three-pence wax pack included a stick of Anglo
Bubbly bubble gum. The 66-card Space series was compiled and authored
by L.J. Carter, a Fellow of The British Interplanetary Society. Each card
measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
The prime crew of Gemini 4 are pictured on card #21, "The Astronauts." Command Pilot Jim McDivitt and Pilot Ed White are seen preparing to board Gemini-Titan 4 at Cape Kennedy on June 3, 1965.
The recovery of Gemini SC8 is depicted on card #34, "Recovery–3." The
illustration is based on a photograph of Commander Neil Armstrong and David Scott after splash down on March 17, 1966.
On March 16, 1966, at 23:14 UTC, Gemini 8 performed the first docking of two spacecraft in orbit. The Agena Target Vehicle malfunctioned and began to tumble. The spacecraft was undocked and Armstrong regained control by engaging the Reentry Control System (RCS) thrusters. The mission was aborted and the crew made an emergency landing in the Pacific Ocean, about 500 miles east of Okinawa, Japan.

Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space, is pictured on card #18. The image was illustrated by David A. Hardy based on a photograph of Tereshkova during training. Tereshkova completed 48 orbits aboard the Vostok 6 spacecraft from June 16–19, 1963.
Illustrations of EVA by Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov and Gemini 4 astronaut Ed White are featured on cards #25–26.
