2014 Topps Heritage Baseball Trading Cards
2014 Topps Heritage Baseball Trading Cards were released by The Topps
Company, Inc. on March 14, 2014. The collection recreates the vintage design
of the 1965 Topps Baseball series. Each hobby and retail box contains
24 packs with 9 cards per pack. Insert odds vary for each release.
The odds of finding a "News Flashbacks '65" insert are approximately 1:12
hobby and retail packs. The ten-card subset includes a video still image of Soviet cosmonaut Alexei
Arkhipovich Leonov (Алексе́й Архи́пович Лео́нов) during the first
extravehicular activity (EVA) on March 18, 1965.
Voskhod 2 pilot Alexei Leonov is pictured floating in low Earth orbit while tethered to the Voskhod-3KD No. 4 spacecraft. The first spacewalk lasted 12 minutes. The spacesuit expanded in the vacuum of space forcing Leonov to open a pressure valve in order to reenter the airlock. Leonov carried a suicide pill in case of being abandoned in orbit.
Voskhod 2 Commander Pavel Belyayev and Alexei Leonov returned to Earth on March 19, 1965. The descent module of the Voskhod 2 spacecraft is displayed at the RKK Energiya museum in Korolyov, Russia.
"On March 18, 1965, Aleksei became the first person to step out of a
spacecraft and take a stroll in space. The 30-year-old cosmonaut from the
Soviet Union became a national hero for his feat of floating outside the
Voskod 2 while looking down on Earth for more than 10 minutes."
